Tuesday, November 19, 2019
3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
University Library, level 3, Sea View Room

With the global Open Access initiatives to make scientific research accessible to all, preprints, the versions of scientific manuscripts posted on a public server prior to formal peer review, are growing in use across different research disciplines. While the arXivpreprint server, of which the KAUST University Library this year became a supporting member, has long been a key part of communicating new research in physics and mathematics, the last few years have seen a number of other preprint servers, such as bioRxiv and ChemRxiv, emerge for researchers in other scientific disciplines.

In this discussion, KAUST panelists will discuss their experience with preprints and how the use of preprints is being regarded by researchers and publishers in their field. This timely topic reflects a scholarly communication ecosystem in transition, as governments, funders, universities, publishers and academics increasingly adopt open policies, infrastructure and practices.

Panelists:

1. Robert Hoehndorf, Assistant Professor of Computer Science
2. Kuo-Wei Huang, Professor of Chemical Science
3. Manuel Quezada de Luna, Research Scientist in Applied Mathematics

No registration is required.
