Open-access: recent advancements in optical microscopy

Hands-on trial of LIGHTNING high resolution confocal detection package and world’s first Personal Automated Lab Assistant (PAULA) by Leica Microsystems

Sunday, April 28 – Thursday, May 16, 2019
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Building 3, level 0, room 0345

The KAUST Imaging & Characterization Core Laboratory (IAC) is pleased to invite the KAUST research community to a hands-on trial of LIGHTNING and PAULA, two of the latest biological optical microscopy techniques offered by Leica Microsystems.

LIGHTNING technology is a detection package based on Leica SP8 confocal microscope for image information extraction. With LIGHTNING, the image resolution is improved to 140nm without sacrificing the speed.

PAULA is a new type of microscope which revolutionizes the routine cell cultures tasks by automatically recording and analyzing cells. PAULA could eliminate tedious, routine cell-check tasks by sending notifications via email when the desired status is reached.

LIGHTNING and PAULA will help researchers reduce labor time whilst improving the image resolution and providing more reliable results of their experiments.
