Plagiarism course requirement

Many examples of the impact of plagiarism have become internationally visible, and universities are working hard to train their communities on ways to avoid plagiarism. As a result, the University Library has developed a self-paced online course entitled “Plagiarism and How to Avoid It.”

The course, which is offered on Blackboard, covers videos and presentations on topics such as plagiarism, copyright, summarizing and paraphrasing, citing sources, interpreting originality reports and additional library resources on academic integrity.

Given the significance of the issue, the course has been made mandatory for all students, postdoctoral fellows and research scientists. Students will be expected to complete the course by September 1. Postdoctoral fellows and research scientists should complete the course by September 30.

Graduate Affairs will be sending a notice to all students on the details of the course. Research Operations will be communicating details to postdoctoral fellows and research scientists.

Graduate Affairs and Research Operations will work with the Academic Divisions to track compliance with this requirement and to provide feedback when an individual completes the course.
