The Information Technology (IT) Department will shortly sign a new contract to replace the obsolete and energy-inefficient printers currently installed at KAUST with state-of-the-art multifunctional printers (MFP).

This new contract will also optimize the distribution of printers across campus based on both the current and forecasted print usage. The overall goal of the new printers is to reduce the number of under-utilized and smaller printers by providing high-speed MFP printers that are easily accessible.

The IT Department will continue the current cost model of charging departments based on the actual printed copies by type (color, black/white etc.) with the supplier providing the MFP printer and toner.

Benefits:

  • Power consumption: New MFP printers will consume substantially less power
  • Performance and quality: Better resolution and high-speed performance
  • Smart printing: All public printers will be part of the “Smart Printing” solution, which will include the benefits of mobile printing, secure release and print anywhere etc. that are in place today.
