If you are planning to leave your unit unoccupied for a temporary period for example to go on vacation leave, please find below a friendly reminder of simple tips to keep your house in good condition and protect your valuables whilst you are away:
- Assign a caretaker by completing a Caretaker Authorization Form and e-mailing it to housing@kaust.edu.sa or drop off a completed form at the Housing Reception before your departure.
- Close all angle valves in the unit associated with all sinks, bidets and hand sprays to ensure no water leaks from the internal plumbing system. The valves are typically located underneath or behind the associated items.
- Leave the air conditioning on ‘Auto’ and set it to 26°C (78.8°F) to avoid condensation and prevent the formation and growth of mold.
- Switch off the electrical circuit breaker for the water heater inside the distribution board panel (houses and villas) to prevent any excessive temperature and pressure build up in the water heater tank.
- Make sure your stove and other non-essential electrical appliances are switched off at the wall and unplugged.
- Leave floor drains in all wet areas uncovered including toilets, kitchen, wash room, laundry room and water heater room (if applicable), to prevent instances of flooding in the event of a water leak inside the unit.
- Make certain that all doors, windows and curtains are closed, to avoid condensation build up inside the unit.
- Ensure the roof access is locked and secure.
- Make arrangements for the upkeep of your backyard, as required by the KAUST Housing Agreement by calling 959, or by e-mailing gardening@kaust.edu.sa.
If you are having difficulty locating any of the features discussed above, within your unit, please contact Maintenance through the FC Helpdesk by dialing 959.
