Appropriate use of Library e-resources

Dear University Library users,

Many publishers, including Elsevier, ACS, SIAM and AIAA, have restricted our online access to their publications due to excessive downloading or unauthorized usage of their content from our campus.

What is excessive downloading?

Publishers do not publish their threshold, but generally it is systematic downloading that exceeds the number of articles and the speed of downloading, which is unexpected from typical library research. It is inconvenient to have campus access to resources cut off while each infringement is investigated and reported. Continual violations jeopardize long-term access to the valuable resources.

It is important for the Library users to strictly abide by the Library’s e-resources usage policy, as it takes time to negotiate and recover access with electronic publishers, and loss of access affects everyone in our community.
