We want to share with you a few tips to help you stay secure while traveling.
- Do not store sensitive data on any internal or external local media. Try to remove all data on your laptop or mobile device that is considered sensitive before you leave.
- Backup your sensitive data in a secure place at home for personal data or at the backup services provided by IT for work data where you can retrieve it later.
- You can access your data and services through VPN. This allows all communication to be secured and encrypted.
- Make sure your operating system and all applications are fully updated for security patches.
- Be careful what networks you connect to. This is especially an issue at airports, hotels and coffee shops where you expect wireless connectivity and they use an open Wi-Fi connection that doesn’t require a username and password prior to connection.
- Turn off wireless when your device is not in use or when network connectivity isn’t required.
- Do not automatically join any wireless networks from laptops or cell phones. Manually pick the specific network you want to join.
- Turn off Bluetooth when it’s not actively being used.
Happy Eid and safe travels.
