Please join us Wednesday, June 17 at 8:00 p.m. for a special lecture and Q&A session with Mr. Ahmad O. Al-Khowaiter, Saudi Aramco’s Chief Technology Officer.

Al-Khowaiter is Saudi Aramco’s chief technology officer and has a long and devoted history with KAUST and a commitment to innovation in Saudi Arabia.

He joined Aramco in 1983, where he held various technical roles in oil and gas production organizations, ranging from design, project management, commissioning, and operations; as well as a number of supervisory, managerial, and general management positions.

In 2001, he led the commissioning and start-up of Hawiyah Gas Plant, followed by the start-up of Haradh Gas Plant in 2003, two of the largest natural gas processing plants in the world.

In 2006, Mr. Al-Khowaiter led the planning and development of KAUST. The following year, he was named Interim Provost of KAUST and then Interim Vice President for KAUST’s Economic Development Division from 2008 to 2009.

Al-Khowaiter was Saudi Aramco’s chief engineer from 2011 to 2014, and executive director of power systems in 2014 before assuming his present role as CTO.

Mr. Al-Khowaiter holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM); a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara; and an MBA as a Sloan Fellow from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

About the SRSI

The Saudi Research Science Institute (SRSI) is an intensive summer research immersion program, designed for high-achieving eleventh graders from throughout the Kingdom. SRSI offers these top students the opportunity to conduct university-level research under world class KAUST faculty mentors. This year’s program is underway with 39 accomplished young participants.

SRSI’s Distinguished Speaker Series brings leading global figures to KAUST to inspire young scholars by exposing them to cutting-edge research in science, technology, business leadership, and global issues.
