From the beginning of April the VLE team have scheduled a number of training sessions for the Blackboard VLE, the University’s Virtual Learning Environment. We have also introduced some new, more advanced courses covering: Assessments & Assignments, Communication and Module/Course Management. Details of what each of these sessions covers has been given below.

If you would like to attend any of the training workshops then please email vle@kaust.edu.sa with what session(s) you would like to attend. Each training session will be no longer than two hours. If there are other areas in the VLE that you would like to see covered please contact vle@kaust.edu.sa and they will contact you to discuss your requirements.
Each of the sessions listed above is limited to 20/30 places (depending on what room), so if you have emailed to join a session(s) that has already been fully booked we will send you an email to ask you to book onto a session on a different date. Introduction to Blackboard
This will be an introduction session to Blackboard which will cover orientation and how staff can upload documents onto their modules/courses. Along with help and tips of good practice.
The session will cover the following:
- Accessing and customizing your module page
- Building the navigation menu
- Uploading and managing content
- Managing users
Assessment and Assignments in Blackboard
This session will cover how staff can create online assignments submissions and assessments using Blackboard. Staff will also be shown how they can grade student submissions using the Grade Centre tool that is available through Blackboard and how they can make the grades available to the students.
This session will cover the following tools:
- Tests, Surveys, Pools
- Grade Centre (Basic)
- Assignment
- Grade Centre (Basic)
- How to add a final grade
Communication
This session will cover how staff can use communications tools with Blackboard effectively with their students. Along with a brief overview of all other types of communication methods available within Blackboard
This session will cover the following tools:
- Announcements
- Groups
- Discussions
- Journals
- Blogs
- Wiki
Module / Course Management
This session will cover how users can manage their module/course using the various admin tools available within each module/course within the Blackboard system.
This session will cover the following tools:
- Module Dashboard (Study Resources)
- Manage Users
- Grade Centre
- Evaluation
- Content Collection
- Advanced Adaptive Release
- Copy/Export/Archive
