The Beneath the Waves Film Festival aims to inspire and educate the community through the screening of engaging documentaries about marine science. It is hoped that participants will leave these events with a greater awareness and understanding of a range of important and pressing issues regarding the health of our oceans.

This event will span three evenings covering five different themes in marine science:

  • Monday, November 17: Introduction to the Marine Realm and Major Topics in Marine Conservation
  • Tuesday, November 18: Sharks and Rays, Marine Ecotourism and Local Communities
  • Wednesday, November 19: Overfishing

Each section will be followed by a Q & A session with a panelist of marine scientists from KAUST’s Red Sea Research Center. Monday and Tuesday’s screenings will include a series of short mini-films (5-10 minutes). Wednesday’s evening will feature the full-length documentary End of the Line.

Refreshments will be provided.

Sponsored and organized by graduate students of the Coral Reef Ecology Lab and Graduate Affairs.
