On August 28, the academic council of the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) honored Professor Enrico Traversa with the IAAM Smart Materials Medal of 2014, for his outstanding and notable contributions in the field of Materials Science and Technology, during the opening ceremony of International Conference on Smart Materials and Surfaces.

Professor Traversa is the Principle Investigator at the Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage (MECS) Lab within the Physical Science and Engineering Division.

The MECS Lab benefits from the close working of multidisciplinary researchers seeking to find novel approaches to practical applications – including the development of proton-conducting materials, third generation solar cells, commercialization of large-scale, solid-oxide fuel cells, new hydrocarbon fuels compatible anode materials, new processing techniques for high performance fuel cells, and developing scaffold bio materials to be used to repair or regenerate damaged tissues, as well as simple oxides in the form of nano particles that can act as antioxidant drugs.
