The Analytical Core Lab is offering a basic training course on the use and application of High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS).

LC-MS is a powerful analytical chemistry technique that is used in industry and academia for both routine and research purposes. This two-day short course will offer an overview of mass spectrometry and is designed to provide basic knowledge and practical applications of LC-MS analysis. The course progresses from an introduction to HPLC and mass spectrometry to themes common to all LC-MS interfaces, emphasizing those phenomena that are important for success with LC-MS experiments

Sunday and Monday, March 18-19
Ibn Sina Building (building 3), level 3, room 3320

Course Outline:

  • Introduction of LC-MS
  • MS inlets and ionization modes (Electrospray Ionization, Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization, Atmospheric Pressure Photoionization)
  • Positive or negative ionization modes
  • How mass spectrometers work (Quadroupole, Ion Trap, Time-Of-Flight, Orbitrap)
  • Modes of operation of the mass analyzer MS, MS/MS and MSn
  • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis
