At KAUST, we are fortunate to live and work in a community that offers a variety of convenient transportation options for getting around campus. With different types of vehicles sharing our roads and pathways, keeping everyone safe is a shared responsibility. The KAUST Road Safety Code outlines the licensing and operating requirements for different types of vehicles.
Vehicles (Cars/Trucks/Gas Scooters)
All drivers operating vehicles on KAUST roads must hold a valid driving license recognized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
Golf Carts
- Option 1: Individuals with a valid driving license recognized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) can drive a golf cart in KAUST.
- Option 2: KAUST residents without a driving license recognized by the KSA may apply for a KAUST Driving Permit starting at age 17 (Hijri). For guidance on how to apply for a KAUST Driving Permit using the KAUST Central App, please click here.
Micromobility Device Use – E-Scooters
KAUST distinguishes between basic commuter e-scooters and higher-powered models.
- Basic commuter scooters are treated similarly to bicycles under the KAUST Road Safety Code,
- Higher-powered devices are subject to additional safety controls, including licensing and registration.
- Riders under the age of 16 (Hijri) must complete the KAUST HSE online road safety training course before riding an e-scooter.
License Presentation Requirements
Operators of all vehicle types must present a valid KSA-recognized driving license or a KAUST Driving Permit upon request by Security. Drivers are responsible for carrying their license electronically via government-approved apps such as Tawakkalna or Absher.
