Three KAUST students took top honors at this year’s Falling Walls Lab event, each delivering a three-minute pitch on research aimed at solving a pressing global challenge.
Zixian Jiang won first place for “Breaking the Wall of AI Energy Waste,” followed by Izamar Olivias in second for “Breaking the Wall of Agricultural Soil Salinity,” and Asayil Alsulami in third for “Breaking the Wall of Perovskite Solar-Cell Instability.”
As first-place winner, Zixian Jiang will represent KAUST at the Falling Walls Global Finale in Berlin on 6 November, competing against more than 100 finalists from universities worldwide. A Ph.D. student in Electrical and Computer Engineering within CEMSE, Zixian works under Professor Xiaohang Li.
The Falling Walls Lab challenges early-career researchers to communicate the impact of their work in just three minutes, distilling complex science into a clear, compelling case for why it matters. Congratulations to all three winners, and best of luck to Zixian in Berlin.
