KAUST achieves global excellence in risk and resilience management

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) has earned international recognition for its institutional and best-practice approach to resilience, receiving two key certifications from the British Standards Institution (BSI):

  1. ISO 22301 (Business Continuity Management): Provides a framework for preparing for and recovering from disruptions, ensuring that critical operations continue.
  2. ISO 31000 (Risk Management): Establishes a structured approach for organizations to identify, analyze, evaluate, and manage risks.

Marking an important milestone in KAUST’s ongoing pursuit of institutional resilience and operational excellence within its Risk and Resilience Programs, the BSI certifications affirm the University’s collaborative commitment to embedding best practices across all four sectors — from Research and Graduate Education and the National Transformation Institute (NTI) to Operations and University Relations and Governance.

The BSI provided independent evaluation and guidance throughout the certification process, offering valuable insights that helped benchmark KAUST’s frameworks against global peers. This collaboration reinforced the University’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.

Achieving International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification is part of a continuing process that ensures KAUST meets global best practices and remains prepared to anticipate, withstand, and adapt to change.

By embedding risk awareness and continuity readiness across the organization, KAUST strengthens its ability to protect its research, learning, and innovation mission.
