Celebrating the Success of the Community Composting Program | Facility tours and giveaways

Since 2023, the Campus and Community (C&C), in partnership with Edama Organic Solutions, has diverted more than 1,500 tons (1,500,000 kg) of food waste from landfill.

Instead of being wasted, your food scraps have been transformed into nutrient-rich compost at our onsite facility, proudly operated by KAUST spinout Edama Organic Solutions

This is an important milestone — but we can do more. Today, only 45–50% of food waste is being composted. Almost half still end up in landfill.

Imagine the difference if every household participated!

Join the Community Composting Program

Join the Community Composting Program and help turn your food waste into nutrient-rich compost. By separating your organic waste at home, you are taking an important step toward reducing landfill waste and supporting a sustainable community.

If your house is not provided with an external organic bin, please register for the composting program

Remember to:

  1. Separate your food waste
    – Only place organic waste in the Organic bins (External organic bin will be provided after registration).
    – Avoid non-organic items. They disrupt the composting process.
  1. For the apartment buildings
    – Harbor Apartments: Organic garbage chute
    – Oasis Apartments: Organic waste bins in garbage rooms
  1. Make every scrap count
Your careful separation helps turn food waste into nutrient-rich compost for the community.
