The University Library continues to support KAUST’s Open Access Policy, aiming to enhance the global impact of KAUST research by making publications freely accessible to the world, without the barriers of publisher paywalls.
KAUST corresponding authors can publish accepted articles in open access mode at no cost through Read and Publish Agreements with a select group of publishers. These agreements cover both hybrid journals and a limited or unlimited number of free articles.

APC discount agreements
KAUST also provides APC (Article Processing Charge) discounts ranging from 10% to 50% with the following publishers:
- Elsevier
- IEEE
- Frontiers
- Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI)
- Thieme journals
- TransTech (Scientific.Net)
Open access without an agreement
If a publisher is not included in these agreements, authors can still make their articles open access by submitting the “author-accepted manuscript” version to the KAUST Research Repository. The University Library will make it available worldwide, adhering to the publisher’s policies and attaching a link to the original article and its DOI. Authors can also deposit associated datasets in the Research Repository.
