The UNEP World Environment Day is one of the largest global platforms for environmental public outreach, awareness and action. The theme for 2023 is “Solutions to plastic pollution” – a call to end plastic pollution and shift to a circular economy through innovation, technology and policy. While plastics have transformed our everyday lives, they can take up to 1,000 years to disintegrate, find their way into food and water, and generate over 3% of greenhouse gas emissions. KAUST invites you to celebrate this day and reflect on your daily plastic consumption and how you can #BeatPlasticPollution!
Community Art Wall
KAUST Enrichment for Youth (KEY), The KAUST School, Community Life, Facilities Management, Averda, Students for Sustainability and the Office of Sustainability have joined together to create a KAUST art wall.
TKS students, Kirsten Bindoy and Jude Fadul, have worked with local artist Meedo Creisat to create a beautiful and unique design for an art wall. Community members are invited to join in ‘coloring’ the wall using bottle tops. (Our art wall will follow the same concept as the 160m long ‘bottle top’ art wall recently installed in South Corniche, Jeddah).
Come along and get involved in a community art project to give new life to used plastics, in Discovery Square from 3.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. on June 5, 7, 8, 9, and 1.30 p.m. – 8.00 p.m on June 6.
