  1. It is unfortunate that the place of relocation is so inconvenient. Firstly, it is too far to be reached quickly after work by foot; secondly all those not living on Island need to take two buses to get there; thirdly, given there is no booking system, and hence one has often to wait for very long times, the wait times can not be simply spent on discovery square / in office anymore.

    • Apologies for the delay in responding to the messages generated by this move. I do hope the following will answer all of your question:

There are two bus stop options for the ladies salon and barber shop, both of which are on the orange route. You can alight from stop 7 or stop 8.

This move to the Island is the result of a combination of factors – relocating during the Town Center upgrade program makes for a safer option as the previous site required navigating around construction barricades. Listening to the Community feedback, this is an opportunity to provide a permanent and more relaxed and comfortable venue that many have requested.

With regard to the location itself, alternatives were looked at across the community and campus areas, all of which would require at least a section of the community to experience a slightly longer and potentially more complicated journey. This final location was chosen based on overall accessibility, suitability, and adaptability to provide the community with the best service possible.

      • Dear Mr. Al-Omar,

It is very unfortunate that we have not been given a proper way to give you our feedback before the relocation. By that I mean, you could have sent a survey to the community and requested answers to some questions (new location, accessibility etc.). Then decide. This is more transparent and I feel efficient as well. So I am surprised you got a community feedback, if there was any, this was not an official one to my knowledge.

I was a regular customer but I don’t want to have to look at the buses, plan my trip and what if I don’t have the exact change with me (because the salon does not take cards), I will have a problem, when before I could just go and withdraw cash easily and come back to pay the remaining to the beauty salon.

Before, I could just walk and the location was central. I am sure many people were enjoying the previous location, and the ongoing work was not bothering me that much. This is my feedback.

        Thank you.

    • Mobile number for Caterine’s beauty salon – 0561189621. I didn’t see what bus stop today as I cycle everywhere, although Orange or Blue will be close! The I-56 group of houses are along the park, 2 streets down from the beach along the Red Sea. It is near to the junction with the ‘phone ariel/mast for STC or mobily’ I hope this helps.

  2. I understand the Beauty Salon and the Male Barber has moved from the central location to the Island, however the last location was only temporary and the central building was truly awful. It was not fit for purpose of this type of work.
Yes, it is a longer walk or maybe a few mins on a bus then a short walk, or better still; use a bike. Promote exercise! I know change is difficult; although the new building is 100 times better than before. With good time management, this change can be easily mastered!

  3. Yes, lovely to have a better building, however, for those in the gardens area without a car, it is not a matter of a few minutes on a bus. it is much longer than that. bike riding promoting exercise is a nice thought, but some of us cannot ride that distance due to various ailments, ie, joint pains. thanks for your positive optimism, but there is realism as well.

    • I have the impression that this location will also be temporary…there are signs in D-square saying there is a towncenter upgrade, so I’d believe there will be space for them over there in the future.
      Maybe F&C can confirm…

  4. More to the point of this, is the 2 buses to the barbers which there and back will take over an hour, only to find a wait of anything upto two hours, which is ridiculous.

Perhaps somebody at F&C could comment on this situation and what is being done to push the owner of the barbers to sort the capacity issues out, as they appear very unlikely to be bothered resolving the problem unless KAUST put pressure on them.

With several hundred additional students joining us next semester and the population of the community growing substantially in the months ahead, this situation will only get worse if not managed.

  5. What really is annoying is the wait time, its only 1 guy serving 20 people at a time, witch means you walk in and wait for probably over 1 or 2 hours. I think if they hired more people with an apporpriate reservation line it would be much better. I do not know why I cant make reservations for a haircut or shave.

  6. Greetings,

F&C is currently working with the Barber Shop to hire one more employee, but things are taking time due to the new labor law.

We are also putting pressure on the Barber Shop to implement a reservation system which we except to be in operation soon. We will keep you updated.

Please be rest assured that the F&C team will spare no efforts to accommodate our community needs.

    Thank You.

  7. The new ladies salon is better in every sense. Better location and a much better environment. Peaceful and serene. I am hoping that it stays in this location. Remember not every one at KAUST works on the campus and the parking at this location is much better – closer and easier to get a spot.
